It occurred to her then that if she played guitar, she would not have these kinds of problems.  She thought of the guitar-playing girls on TV.  They didn't care about cheerleaders and soccer players and feeling let out.  All they cared about was expressing themselves with their guitars and their big shoes.  They were above middle school and all the stupid things that happened there, which is exactly where Kate wanted to be.
